SINGING FOR YOUR DINNER

At a confirmation party (of three brothers, singing in this clip), I was reminded of a custom in some families to give the singers money while they are performing.

  1. Was this confirmation party on Guam - where they received money while performing? We recently hosted the Inetnon Gef Pa'go dance group in San Diego, and while performing to the manamko at the Guam club, several members threw dollar bills to them. The same thing happened in Long Beach. Could it be that while Gef Pa'go brought some Guam to California, that the California Chamorros introduced a forgotten Chamorro custom to residents of Guam?

    1. This was on Guam and the boys just spontaneously got up to sing, and people spontaneously got up to stuff dollar bills in their shirts. I think this is a custom found in some families here that they have preserved.
